(From CS2:51) This house may have its first story solid wall or veneered with brick on a wood frame; the latter, in our estimation, being preferable. The large arched window is a very striking feature. Under the stone sill terra cotta blocks are used. The long side pieces are of polished marble, resting on carved stone bases supporting carved stone capitals, on which rests a beautiful arch of stone, alternated in colors. The spandrels or corners over the arch are filled with blue and pink glazed tile. With the bay window and gable balcony above, this treatment produces a very beautiful effect indeed. This residence was erected last season by Mr. J. H. Nelson, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., on a much larger scale, at a cost of $15,000, the first story being of stone, in two colors. The effect is very fine. The floor plans are convenient and susceptible of many changes, and can be made to front in any direction. Interior, hall, parlor and dining room finished in oak; balance of rooms to be of pine or poplar, painted. Plastering, three-coat work, hard finish. Plumbing consists of sink and pump in kitchen, bath tub and bowl, with connections, gas throughout. Outside materials, first story, brick; second story, shingled. Foundation, stone. Roof, slate. Painting, three-coat work. Outside blinds throughout. Size, plan no. 1, 33x43 feet, exclusive of steps. Plan no. 2, 35x56 feet, exclusive of steps. Height of first story, 10 feet; second story, 9 feet 4 inches. Depth of cellar, 7 feet, under all.
